Lora: Almost 40 Years Ago God Gave Me A Vision For My Life

image.jpgGod wanted Lora and I to meet

I met Lora December 2017. I was a S.E.R.V.E., Inc. board member. On that particular day I was working in the food pantry packing Christmas food boxes. Lora had volunteered to help with toy distribution. But instead she wound up in the food pantry packing food boxes. When I think back on that day, I now know that God wanted us to meet for reasons we wouldn’t know till years later. Anyway, we started talking and exchanged phone numbers and kept in touch ever since.

This is the perfect time to share your testimony

Let’s fast forward. July 14, 2020, Lora texted me saying, “My vision God has given me is coming to fruition so wanted to share.” I texted back, “I get so excited when I hear what’s God been up to. I love hearing God reports.” We wound up talking. I said to her, “This is the perfect time to share your testimony.”

You see, Oct 7, 2018 when I shared with Lora, “Sharita’s Unwavering FAITH took her from ZERO to sHERO,” she texted, “Powerful testimony!” Then I replied that if she had a testimony to share, I’d be honored to write it. But that was not the right time because God was still lining up resources and putting things in place for the vision to come to fruition.

Lora’s testimony, in her own words…

Almost 40 years ago, God gave me a vision for my life

Yes, almost 40 years ago, God gave me a vision for my life. I was in Africa surrounded by many people. Even at this young age, I knew it was Africa but didn’t understand what this meant at the time.

Seeking and desiring to be seen, loved and known

I grew up in a Christian home, actively serving in our home church as a family and had loving parents that provided all my needs. So, I knew the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized at the age of eight. I memorized John 3:16 and understood the love of God our father in my head, but not in my heart.

A Father is supposed to provide for their children, and He is supposed to love His children. I could not comprehend or grasp how He died for me, that He saw me and loved me, for me. So, I continued with my life seeking and desiring to be seen and to be loved, and to be known.

I felt broken, hurt, lost and empty

I wandered, going in circles and in all the wrong places so far away from God. And with all the wrong people left feeling broken, hurt, lost and empty. Satan was attempting to kill, steal and destroy and disqualify me from what God had already started before the day I was born.

I felt unworthy, uncomfortable in my own skin. Where I stood never quite felt like I belonged. I felt so alone, even though I was surrounded by so many.

Single and holding my newborn son, I had an encounter with Jesus

In my early thirties, single and while holding my beautiful newborn son, I had an encounter with Jesus. As I looked into my son’s eyes and was thinking about how much I loved him and would die for him, God spoke to me. He told me that the love I had for my son did not compare with the love He had for me. That His love was greater and that He died for me. He is the God who sees me!

God reminded me of that calling He gave me when I was almost eight years old. Seeing all the places I would go and seeing everything I would ever do. He saw me and never took His eyes off of me, yet He still chose me, in spite of me.

I surrendered my life to Jesus… the One who sees me

God’s love for me moved from my head to my heart. And I surrendered my life to Jesus and His will. I set my bucket down, as the Woman at the Well. Wanting to run and tell all to come and see, the One who sees me. The one who died for me, and knew all I ever did and still chose me, calling me His daughter.

I continued to pursue Jesus going on short-term mission trips to Haiti in 2008, South Sudan in 2015, and then a West African country in 2018.  God continued to orchestrate my life. He introduce me to His children leading me to engage in cross cultural outreaches in my community and beginning to actively research sending agencies.

God placed a passion in my heart for a specific people group

Three years ago, as sitting and completing assignments for a Missions class, Perspectives, God placed a passion in my heart for a specific people group. That passion grew stronger and everywhere I turned, I would see their faces and would see their names.

Through people of influence that God brought me to, I learned about a global mission sending agency. This sending agency is known by prayer to bring good news to hard places because there are people living and dying without Jesus.

The God Who Sees Me, SEES THEM TOO!

God led me to this sending agency. The moment I stepped foot there, God confirmed that this would be my sending agency. As I was deciding on the country God was sending me to, I had many brothers and sisters praying for me. One dear sister prayed for clarity. She prayed that God would make it so crystal clear I would have no doubt that it was the location He was sending me to.

When meeting with the leaders in this African country, a place I never thought was an option to return to, they shared the needs of the people were, “TO BE SEEN!” This was confirmation. The God who sees, saw me there so many years ago. A couple years ago He had me write in my journal that He wanted me to go to the women and children to tell them that He sees them too! I was going to Africa.

I will be getting on the plane to Africa

After getting my son acclimated into college, selling my house, raising full support, and completing intense cross-cultural training, I will be getting on the plane in 2021 to go to Africa.

I will be joining a ministry team already there and cultivating the ground. I will be learning the language and culture and building relationships that work towards crossing barriers and being accepted in the community. We will be going into hard places where Jesus Christ is least known. And responding to the needs of the women and children, proclaiming the gospel, and equipping the church.

Stepping out in Faith

God will use my gifts and talents to minister to the women and children. I give my body as a living sacrifice. My hands are opened, and I relinquish all control, stepping out in faith trusting God and obeying Him. Here I am!

Lora’s favorite Scripture

“The Lord gave me this answer: “Write down clearly on tablets what I reveal to you, so that it can be read at a glance. Put it in writing, because it is not yet time for it to come true. But the time is coming quickly, and what I show you will come true. It may seem slow in coming, but wait for it; it will certainly take place, and it will not be delayed.” Habakkuk‬ ‭2:2-3‬ ‭GNT‬‬

Praise God!!  This was the scripture God led me to so long ago!!

God wants you to know…

When God gives you a vision, be patient and wait for it to happen. It may take a little time because there are things God has to do for you, in you and through you. But rest assured, it will happen. Not in your timing but in God’s perfect timing. So, don’t give up on God! God will never give up on you!

When God tells you to do something… just do it! Trust God to give you whatever you need so you can do what He called you to do. God is not going to call you to do something and leave you hanging. He will be with you every step of the way, loving you, guiding you and taking care of your every need.

Just like Abraham, Lora is obeying God and leaving her country and family to go to a foreign land to do God’s work and trusting Him. “The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.” Genesis 12:1 NLT

Dear sisters & brothers, whatever God has called you to do… just do it!

God has more to say…

Turn to God and surrender all to Him

Sometimes when you feel lonely, desperate, empty, not worthy and want to be seen, you look for love, joy, acceptance, validation, your worth in the wrong places instead of turning to God and surrendering all to Him and I mean ALL.

What some people don’t know, and even Christians, is that when you turn to God and surrender ALL to Him, He will give you everything you need to feel loved, joy, accepted, validated and worthy. It may not come in the way you want or expect but God will deliver, deliver you and will restore you. He will give you all these things in all kinds of ways. All you have to do is keep your eyes on Jesus and you will see all the things He has done for you and feel the things you are longing to feel.

Lora was looking for all these things in the wrong places but when she turned to God and surrendered ALL to Him, her life changed forever. “Seek first the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33 NLT

To know God, you first have to know Jesus

Just like Lora, many of us grow-up in church, we read the Bible and are even saved and don’t know God. We know of Him but don’t have a personal relationship with Him. Until you have an encounter with Jesus, as Lora did, you will never know God. To know God, you first have to know Jesus. There is only one way to God… Jesus. When you know God personally, this takes your faith to new heights.

You will experience the fullness of God’s love, peace, joy and hope. You will receive the fullness of God’s blessing. And everything He planned for your life, you will receive. You will always be in God’s presence and feel Him. So, even when you are alone, you will never feel lonely because you will feel Him right there with you. This is the best kind of living. I really pray and hope that you are living the God experience and if you are not, that you will.

We don’t have to wait to get to heaven to experience God to His fullest. We can have that experience right here and now to be continued in heaven. But it starts with you accepting Jesus. “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Ephesians 3: 19 NLT
