Hi Ms. Cindy. How are you doing? “I’m always good!” That’s what Cindy says every time! You walk into S.E.R.V.E., Inc., she greets you with the warmest sweetest welcoming smile. She is free spirited, easy going, always has an uplifting word for you and is ready to pray with you in a heartbeat. But don’t try to “play on her kindness,” she’ll “check you” in a second in the nicest way with the most pleasant smile but you know, excuse my English, “Cindy ain’t about to put-up with your foolishness, ok.” So you can’t help but to pull yourself together and act right.
Cindy and I met in 1999. We were members of North Stafford Baptist Church. We always exchanged pleasantries but never had a real talk. In 2016 I started volunteering at S.E.R.V.E., Inc. and ran into her there. We had not seen each other for years. God told me to write about her and He told me to ask her “What’s your story?” I did just that. We talked for almost two hours! She shared her stories with me. We realized that we have so much in common and it was truly a blessing. We are sisters in Christ. God is truly amazing!
Cindy is “Always Good”
Cindy’s “I’m always good” stuck with me and I was curious about it and asked her “Why do you always say that?” This was her answer, in her own words…
“How can I not always be good? Sometimes I’m just more good than other times! Since asking Jesus to be the Lord of my life, I know I’m never alone. Jesus is always there holding my right hand. He’s continually teaching me, “ TRUST IN HIM.” His ways are perfect. He’s always on time. It may be 11:59 but He’s ALWAYS on time. What grace and mercy He shows me. I’m blessed beyond measure and so grateful to be in His service.”
Cindy was not “Always Good”
Cindy has been working at S.E.R.V.E., Inc. as their Intake Manager for over nine years. She does all of the administrative work to ensure people in need are taken care of. “This is the best job I’ve ever had. Making a difference in a positive manner,” she says. But there was a time in Cindy’s life when she didn’t feel that way. This was when she lost her job after working 21 years in the mortgage business. She was feeling useless and without a purpose. One day she decided that she needed to get out and do something. So she went to her neighbor and asked her if she knew of any food banks in the area where she could volunteer. Her neighbor immediately put her in contact with the former Executive Director of S.E.R.V.E., Inc.. Cindy volunteered for 15 months until she moved into the position she currently holds.
Cindy tore up the lotto tickets!
“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you.” Psalm 37:4-5 NLT. These are Cindy’s favorite verses because they are real in her life. You see, Cindy was still working at the mortgage company and she was in a lotto pool with co-workers. It was her turn to buy the lottery tickets so she bought them. But something amazing happened that changed her life forever. God spoke to her! This was the first time she clearly heard His voice. God told her that He is her only source and that she must trust Him. She was in “awe” and decided to tear up the lottery tickets and get out of the pool. The following day she told her co-workers what she did, they were mad! But you know what, she had peace and ever since that day, God kept His word and has given her the desires of heart.
I told Cindy that these are the same verses I’ve been praying for the last few weeks for people and myself, trusting God to give us the desires of our hearts. We all have new desires or unanswered desires. We must trust and wait on God and while we are doing that, we praise His Holy name and thank Him for what He has already done, is doing and will continue to do in our lives and in the lives of our loved ones, in Jesus’ name.
God told Cindy to pray with people
Cindy shared with me that she grew up Catholic and did not have a relationship with Jesus and had not read the Bible. She credits her older sister, an evangelist, for bringing her to the Lord in 1997 when she answered an altar call in a little Baptist church. She also shared that she used to tell people “I’ll pray for you” and she really did. But God wanted her to take it a step further so one day He told her to not only pray for people but pray with them. From thereon, she takes every opportunity to pray with people.
Cindy & Dan say to each other “I love you #2”
Cindy and Dan, her husband of 33 years, are members of the Stafford County Christian Church. She serves in hospitality. Dan serves in First Impressions, Men’s Group and Grounds. Jesus is # 1 in their lives and in their marriage so they lovingly say to each other ‘I love you # 2.” So sweet! They have two adult sons. Dan is a retired Marine Corps veteran. Oohrah!
