Ask yourself, what do I want? Yes, what do YOU want? This is a question we all have to ask ourselves but we don’t do it or don’t do it enough. And here’s the thing, when you answer what you want, you are also going to answer what you don’t want. Yes, when you know what you want, you will also know what you don’t want. Yay!

Coach Jenny asked me, “Debbie, what do you want?”
In 2008 it was time to find a new job. Coach Jenny was my Christian Life Coach trainer at that time. I shared my uneasiness with her and she asked me, “Debbie, what do you want?” Her question caught me off guard. I really didn’t have an answer. So she told me to think about what I want, write it down and be specific, then ask God for it.
That’s exactly what I did. I thought about it, considered my options, looked at the pros and cons and picked one. Once I figured out what I wanted, I wrote it down in detail, i.e., type of job, pay, location, etc., and asked God for it. And guess what? God gave me everything I asked for and more. Coach Jenny and I talk about this in GOD, we’re talking about YOU!
I asked myself once again, “Debbie, what do you want?”
Okay, let’s fast forward to my conversation with Coach Jenny regarding My Struggle With Shyness. Also read her story, Jenny: Say Goodbye to Shy!
So, after our conversation, I asked myself once again, “Debbie, what do you want?” While thinking about it I realized that I had never asked God to remove my shyness. In Coach Jenny’s case, she asked God to remove her shyness and He did. Then I asked myself, “Debbie, do you want God to remove your shyness?” And guess what my answer was? No! I’m not going to ask God to remove my shyness. I’m very comfortable with the platform God has given me to do His work and if He wants me to do something different, He’ll make it happen.
Just like my friend Niurka said in her interview, I’m just fine the way I am! Over the years I’ve asked God for many things and He gave them to me. But for some reason I never asked Him to remove my shyness and at this stage of my life, 59 1/2 years old, child please… I’m good!
Ask yourself, what do I want?
Sometimes we spend our life doing what other people want and not what we want. Preoccupied with pleasing others and not ourselves. And sometimes because we don’t know what we want, we are easily led, influenced or pressured to do things we really don’t want to do. Too, when we don’t know what we want, we don’t know what we don’t want. Then we wonder why we feel unhappy, unsatisfied and frustrated.
So, do you know what you want and what you don’t want? I surely hope you do. If you don’t, this is a good time to find out. This is a good time for some “Me time!” I’m all for being selfless but there is a time to be selfish. A time to take care of self. Because when you are at a good place mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically, you and everyone around you benefits. So take this time to think about want you want, self-examine and self-reflect, and be totally honest with yourself.
Come on now, ask yourself, what do I want? Yes, what do YOU want in regards to your life, future, health, family, relationships, livelihood, residence, etc? And don’t forget to ask God for wisdom, you need it and He’ll give it to you.
Talk to and with yourself. Listen to you. Take care of you! Love you! Then you will be the best version of you, with God’s help. You will feel so good!
Know what you want and ask God for it
Once you know what you want, write it down and ask God for it. You will also know what you don’t want. Ask God to help you set standards, boundaries, limits, etc. Turn everything over to God! Trust God! He loves you!
Bible Reflection
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5 NLT
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 NLT
