Preaching and Teaching God’s Truth
I’d like you to meet Pastor John Hodgen, pastor of Victory Baptist Church. Pastor John preaches and teaches God’s truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth and not a politically correct watered down truth. He speaks God’s truth with love. It is so refreshing! This kind of preaching may not be for everyone but I welcome it because this is what I’ve been praying for.
God’s uncomfortable Truth preached
Pastor John, just like Dr. James Merritt and other pastors, should not be concerned about how we feel when they preach God’s truth because if the truth makes us feel uncomfortable, so be it. There are times we knowingly or unknowingly are going down the wrong path and we need our spiritual leaders to preach God’s truth. We need God’s truth to get us back on the right path even when we may not like what we’re hearing. Of course, we’re all are accountable for our actions. Therefore, what we do or not with the truth is between God and us. The bottom line is that we are accountable for our actions and one day we will be accountable to God for our actions because He is our Judge.
Victory Baptist Church: a small church with a BIG Heart
Victory Baptist Church is a small church with a small congregation but with a BIG heart. The members are ordinary people filled with God’s love, doing God’s work and sharing God’s Word. When you walk through the doors, you feel a warm loving welcome. You feel God’s love, Jesus’ love and the power of the Holy Spirit flowing through His house.
Pastor John preached a sermon that stuck with me and I just have to share it with you. The sermon was entitled, “When God Is In It” from Esther 9:1-4. He said that victory for some people could be just getting out of bed and making it through the day. And I started thinking… that’s so true. Waking up in the morning without a migraine and making it through the day without vertigo, is a victory for me. An uneventful commute to and from work, is a victory for me. What’s your victory? Share it!
Does God’s Truth make you uncomfortable?
“Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 NLT
“Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body the church.” Ephesians 4:15 NLT
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
