Chef Lynn: I know my GOD IS REAL because I’m still here!

After all that Chef Lynn has been through, she should be dead… but she is still here! She is God’s walking miracle! She’s a living testimony of what God can do and will do when you trust Him. This is her testimony of love, unwavering faith and trust in God. Her testimony is evidence that God is real and she’ll tell you that in a heartbeat.

This is a powerful testimony of God’s love, His miracle healing power, His faithfulness, and most importantly, (excuse my language) the devil ain’t running things and he cannot stop God. It’s not over until God says it’s over! You hear me!

Chef Lynn is beautiful and vibrant, filled with love, joy, peace and godly wisdom, and a savvy business woman. She is strong, bold, courageous, fearless, determined and one of the hardest working woman I know. Yes, she’s all that and more!

My dear friends, get comfy and take it all in. Here we go!

In Chef Lynn’s own words…

My daughter was diagnosed with leukemia and I was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer

45 years ago, Jim, my husband, and I were devastated when our 2 years old Catherine was diagnosed with leukemia. Two years later I was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer. I said to myself, “God, you’ve been with me this far, I trust you.”

I had surgery and waited for the results. When the doctor got the results, there was no cancer! This is when I knew God was real!

The doctor told me that he didn’t want me to get pregnant with a second child because I had a waffle size cone cut and I wouldn’t be able to hold a baby. I didn’t care what the doctor said, I trusted God. I said, “Okay Lord, You will bless me.” After I healed, I got pregnant and had my second daughter, Letecia. My God is real!

I’m telling you, you got to learn to trust God! I had to depend on Him every single day. I was taking care of two babies. Jim was active duty soldier in the Army and did as much as he could when he was home. I was always at the hospital with Catherine. God was with me through everything but I won’t lie, it was hard. I cried and cried but then I’d think, sorrow lasts during the night but joy comes in the morning. Many questions ran through my head… How long is she going to live? Will she be able to go to prom? Will she graduate?

Catherine was cancer free for four years. We enjoyed our daughter and Letecia enjoyed her big sister during those years. We were a happy family. I’ll tell you that God will give you the time you need when you need it.

The cancer returned and Catherine lost her battle when she was 11 years old. I was three months pregnant with Teaira, my third child. We had a beautiful funeral for our Catherine and all of her friends were there. I gave my baby’s eulogy, I had to. It was hard but I had to be strong for my baby.

Two years later I wanted Teaira to have a sibling close to her age to grow-up with. Then I had my fourth child, Jonathan. Jim, in his mind, thought we should have four kids. I told God that if I get pregnant again, I wanted another boy. God said, whatever you ask for, He will give it to you so that’s what I believed and did. I knew God was real!

I was in a car accident and thought I had a miscarriage

While pregnant with my fifth child, I had a car accident. I was bleeding profusely and thought I had a miscarriage. When I got to the emergency room they did an ultrasound to check on my baby. I prayed, “God you’ve been with me and I know you are with me now.” Well, that baby’s heart was beating so strong, honey. Oh yes it was! I tell you, my God is real! God told me to name him Joshua Caleb because he would conquer the promise land in my uterus. That’s how my second son got his name.

I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer

I worked at a catering company for seven years. During that time, I had goiter in my throat but they didn’t have a qualified surgeon, in my opinion, to remove it. I was the lead singer in my church choir and sang with other choirs so I didn’t want anything to happen to my vocal cords.

One day I was driving home from work and was at a stop light and couldn’t turn my neck. I knew I had to go see the doctor. When I went to the doctor he said that I had to remove my thyroid and the goiter. I had the goiter for five years. I was blessed because the top surgeon was going to do my surgery. But let me tell you how the devil works.

On the day of my surgery, I was told that my doctor’s partner was going to do my surgery because my doctor couldn’t do it. I was already in my gown and I said to the nurse, “Get my clothes, I’m getting out of here! This doctor doesn’t know my history. I’ll wait until my doctor can do it.” I was not joking! Then my doctor came and told me that he was going to do it. When he removed my thyroid, it had a spot of cancer.

I had to have radiation treatment. I had to swallow a radiation pill and sweat it out in an isolated room for four days. The room had no air conditioning, it was so hot, intolerable. On the first day I had to get a blood thinning shot. Right after, I started to feel funny because the nurse missed the blood vessel and my blood pressure went up high. They did an EKG but everything was fine. Thank you Jesus! I had to drink lots of water to sweat out the radiation. Thank God I was there only two days. God had been with me every step of the way.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer

Life was going well and I was still working with the catering company. I went to the doctor to have my routine mammogram and pap smear. The doctor saw something on my left breast and did a biopsy. It was cancer in one specific area. The doctor told me that I needed a lumpectomy.

This was a teaching hospital. After the doctor did the lumpectomy he told me that I needed radiation treatment and probably four more surgeries, and he’d take tissue samples to analyze that area. I thought… and use me like a guinea pig. I said, “Oh no! I believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. By His stripes I’m healed!”

The doctor thought I was delusional and in denial and referred me to a Psychiatrist. When I saw the Psychiatrist I told her, “I know God. The devil is a liar.” I’ll tell you that by the time I left the Psychiatrist, she knew Jesus. Oh yes she did! She said to me, “You’re just fine.” Nobody could talk me out of trusting my God.

I wasn’t comfortable with what the Doctor had told me about more surgeries and taking tissue samples. I didn’t understand why he had to keep going to the same area when he said it was invasive. One of the ladies in my church told me about another Cancer Center and I decided to go there instead for my radiation treatment.

God told me that before I started my radiation treatment, to give away all the money I had saved to non-profits because He was my sole provider. I trusted God and did exactly what He told me to do. I never missed a day of filling-up my tank. You know, sometimes God wants to see if we’re going to be obedient.

The Cancer Center was 67.1 miles from my home, a little over an hour drive. Normally patients have someone drive them because radiation makes you tired. However, God told me to drive myself, “I’ll be with you.” That’s exactly what I did for 8 ½ weeks and had no issues. That’s how I knew God was real.

God told me to open Heaven’s Gate Catering and healed my 3rd degree radiation burn

When I’d go to my radiation treatment, I’ll be cheerful and positive, giving pep talks, and encouraging other patients, telling them to trust God. By the 3rd week I had a 3rd degree burn on the left side of my breast and the hospital staff sent me home with cooling pads. That night God told me to get on my knees and pray. He said, “Wilma, you’re not going to die from this. I want you to open a catering company and name it Heaven’s Gate Catering.” This was my first assignment.

That same night God healed my body from the burn. Alleluia! The next day I was supposed to stay in the hospital but I didn’t because when they removed the cooling pad, I was healed. The doctor and nurse were amazed and became believers in Jesus Christ. God is real!

God told me to make a business plan. I started studying and preparing myself. This helped put my mind off what I thought was going to kill me and put it on what God told me to do. I wrote down everything God told me to do. I’ve always been bold! You always have to be confident in Him. Heaven’s Gate Catering will be 13 years old July 2019 and I’ve never had to worry about it. God blessed my business!

God gave me my second assignment: The Monuments of Gratitude

Early 2016 God told me in a dream that He wanted me to build a Pathway of Gratitude that leads to the Million Women of Gratitude wall. He told me that Angel 7 would finance this project. He told me to go to His people and one million people will give $7 each.

My heart rate was 16… I was about to die

August 2016, I went to have my annual physical and my doctor told me that the last thing she was going to do was an EKG. When the doctor got the results from the technician, she came back into the room and told me that she just called the ambulance for me. The ambulance was there in less than 2 minutes. She told the nurse to get my husband. The doctor told my husband that my heart rate was too low and I had to be immediately transported to the hospital.

When I got to the hospital, there were two heart doctors waiting for me. They were going to find out why my heart rate was so low and test my arteries. They came back and told me that I needed a pacemaker. However, they couldn’t do it because the specialist was on vacation and they were going to transport me to another hospital.

I told them that before they transport me to the other hospital I had to make arrangements for the party I was catering that weekend. I told my husband and kids what they needed to do. The doctors told me they called two ambulances. I asked why? They explained that if my heart stopped, they’d need two ambulances to revive me. I was so calm because I trusted God. I knew God had my back.

When I got to the hospital, there were four doctors waiting for me. They put me on the monitor and my heart rate went down to 16. The medical staff was hysterical but I was calm. They told me that they needed to put a temporary pacemaker in my neck (I’ll tell you, that is the most painful thing in the world, worse than childbirth in my opinion) and told my family to get out.

The temporary pacemaker was not working. My sister told me that the alarm kept going off all night; this was Friday. The temporary pacemaker was supposed to last until Monday when they were going to put in the permanent pacemaker. Well Saturday morning they woke me up and told me that they had to do the surgery right now, they couldn’t wait until Monday.

During surgery my spirit was hovering over me

During the surgery my spirit was hovering over me. I could see everything. It was like me watching a movie. God told me I didn’t have to worry about anything. I wasn’t worried about anything because I knew God was real. I did not fear death.

The doctors were concerned, I wasn’t. All your confidence has to be in God, not man. I told Him, “Lord I trust You.” After I had the surgery, the doctor told me that I was going to be 100%. When I saw my primary doctor, he told me that I was a walking miracle.

The devil thought he was going to kill me but I’m still here

I had to go to a six weeks course to teach me how to stay alive. And I’m still here! The devil thought he had me, but honey, he is a liar. I’m here to talk about it now. The devil tried to stop me from doing what God told me to do. He thought he was going to take me out but God has something for me to do. I’m going to fulfill my destiny. I’m going to fulfill the purpose God has for me.

Jim and I will be celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary this May. It’s been a wonderful time, a wonderful marriage because I prayed about it and God gave me what I prayed for.

Chef Lynn’s statement of faith

Every morning I read the statement of faith: I’m talented, I’m creative. I’m greatly favored by God, equipped and well able to fulfill my destiny. And I will see my dreams come to pass. My favorite one: I have seeds of greatness inside me but it’s up to me to believe and to act on them. I can do what God has called me to do.

Bible Reflection – Chef Lynn’s favorite verses

“The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.” Habakkuk 3:19 NIV

“However, as it is written: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 NIV

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV

God is Real!!!

The devil tried to kill Chef Lynn not once, not twice but five times but God kept her alive. God has the last word! No matter what you’re facing, know that God has the last word in your life. All you have to do is call on Him and trust Him.

If after reading all this you still don’t believe that “God is Real” then I don’t know what more to say. Jesus said it best in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19:31): “And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent. But he said to him, ‘if they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’ ” Luke 16:30 31 NLT

Folks, just like Chef Lynn, I know “God is Real” because I’ve experienced Him first hand. God wants us to tell our stories so others can know that He is Real and He is still working for us, in us and through us. You don’t have to go through stuff alone, turn to God and He will be with you and get you through. God is Real!

And oh by the way… Chef Lynn is 2nd Vice President at S.E.R.V.E., Inc..
