God works through people to win souls for His Kingdom. The devil also works through people to recruit for his kingdom. Beware! One leads to heaven and the other to hell. “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:10 NLT
This is an eye-opening story of a 27 years old woman who accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was excited about her new Christian journey and BAM!!! Her faith got tested shortly after by her best friend, a witch, who she thought she knew but in reality didn’t know.
Get comfy and sit tight. Here we go.
Martha in her own words…
A few years ago while at boot camp I met a young woman and we became close. We graduated together and kept in touch. A year later I ran into her at the gym not knowing that she was also stationed there. Then she moved to another duty station. We would text every now and then and kept in touch mainly via FaceBook (FB).
In 2019 when I found Jesus, my social media changed from things of the world to everything about Jesus. This is how my girlfriend found out that I became a Christian. However, we never talked about it.
One day we were FB messaging and she asked me what I was doing for Thanksgiving. I told her nothing. Then she asked me if I’d like to have Thanksgiving at her place. She said that her and her husband were having a few friends over. I said yes. So, the night before Thanksgiving (Nov 27, 2019), after work, I drove to her place and got there around 2 a.m. and went to bed.
You mean you’re a witch!
When I got up later that morning she was prepping dinner for the Thanksgiving gathering. While we were talking I noticed a white candle with different colors running down on it and something like an eye shape on it, and two mini mason jars, one had a scorpion and the other had octopus tentacles.
The moment I saw this I knew this was witchcraft so I asked her about it. She said to me, “I know that you’re a Christian now. I’m a pagan and I’m a wiccan.” She said it with a big smile and proudly. Then I said to her, “You mean you’re a witch!” Although I was in shock, I stayed really calm.
Then she went on to explain that she is a witch but uses her powers for good. I actively listened and I literally was still in shock because I couldn’t believe what she was saying. And she was boasting about it like it was a grand accomplishment that she was extremely proud of.
She said that she was part of a coven and she had a coven master. And she tried to paint it in a positive way. She said it was harmless and she worships nature. I could tell that she was trying to sell it to me. I really felt that she was trying to recruit me. Then we left it alone. Guests showed-up and the Thanksgiving gathering went well.
This time I pushed back
The following day on Friday we hung out and things were fine. However, during the night I experienced spiritual warfare. On Saturday I offered to help her clean the kitchen and asked if I could play music. She said yes, as long as it was not gospel. That’s when we got into the conversation a second time and this time it got heated.
The first time when we had this conversation, I was actively listening and didn’t say much because I was in shock. She even thanked me for not being judgmental because she said that a lot of people aren’t open to listening. But this time I pushed back to what she was saying and had a counter answer to everything she said to me. Because I knew God’s truth!
I slept in my car
Later that day I went to visit another girlfriend that graduated from boot camp with us. I shared this whole thing with her. She told me that she didn’t want me to go back to that apartment but she had just moved into her place and didn’t have anywhere for me to stay the night. I told her that I was going to be okay.
When I got into my car I drove to a gas station and when I went to take out my debit card, I couldn’t find it. It took me about an hour before I found it. By that time all the gas stations were closed. It was raining and I was driving around for a while looking for a gas station that was open until I finally found one. Then I drove to my friend, the witch, apartment. I parked the car and I just could not go back in that apartment, so I wound up sleeping in my car.
Sunday morning when I woke, all I wanted to do was to get my belongings out of the apartment and leave. I didn’t want to hang around, it just did not feel right. And the Holy Spirit was telling me to get out of there!
When I walked in the apartment I felt a shift, that something was off. This is when things got really awkward between us. I let her know I was heading back home to try to make it to church. We gave each other the most awkward hug. That was literally the last time we talked and I unfriended her on FB.
This was the first time my faith was tested
I loved this girl and she was my best friend. Honestly, I didn’t know how to handle the situation. It didn’t even cross my mind that I should have left the apartment. Not until when I shared my story with Ms. Deb and she said to me that I could have left. Now thinking back, I should have left the moment she said that she was a wicca. But now I know that if I encounter anything like this again, I will leave immediately.
Martha has more to say…
This was a lesson learned. I heard about this kind of stuff before but didn’t take it seriously. If I had not known God, who knows what would have happened. I could have been easily deceived. Witchcraft, psychics and mediums are real. They come in different forms and fashions. It’s important that we get educated so we don’t get burn. “… my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6 NIV
Be discerning of those around you and take heed of the Holy Spirit. The Holy will tell you when something is off with someone.
Martha’s favorite verse
“But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” 1 john 4:4 NLT
This is my favorite verse because it reminds that when I feel scared my God is bigger and greater. I feel that God will fight my battles and that I’m not alone.
Just in case you didn’t know… the devil is out to get you!
The devil hates you with a passion. So, just in case you didn’t know, he is out to get you! Martha’s story is only one of many ways the devil tries to do that. He will use anyone and especially people close to you to hurt you, turn against you, cuss you out, betray you and recruit you. Beware!
The good news is that when you say YES to Jesus, and you say and believe, “Greater is Jesus in Me!” you know in your heart that everything is going to be alright because Jesus is greater than the devil or any person or thing you will ever face. Okay! Sometimes you just have to let some people go and let God. Wish them well, pray for them and love them from a distance.
When Martha shared her story with me, I told her that she really didn’t have to stay all those days, she could have left. The truth is, her girlfriend is entitled to run her home however she wants and do whatever she wants in her home. As the guest, if you feel uncomfortable or don’t like the way she runs her home or the things she does in her home, then leave.
WOW by the way… Martha, thank you and all active duty service members and all veterans for your service! Oohrah!
You decide
God gave all of us free-will to decide who we want to worship, follow or friend. Some folks like messing around with stuff and all I’m going to say is what Ms. Hyacinth, my mom, would say, “When you play with fire, you’ll get burn.”
There is only one way to God and one way to heaven… Jesus
I’m not here to judge, I leave that to God. But what I’m here to do is share God’s truth with you. There are many religions out there but there is only ONE TRUE GOD and there is only One Way to heaven.
The one way to God and one way to heaven is by accepting Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as your Lord and Savior. I know I want to go to heaven and I sure hope you do to. Don’t be deceived and end-up in the wrong place, hell. That’s not the “oops” moment you want because there is no turning back. So, don’t waste any time. Just do it!
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”” John 14:6 NIV
Say this prayer…
Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I am calling on You according to Acts 2:21 (NIV): “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” I confess my sins and ask for Your forgiveness. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord over my life according to Romans 10:9-10 (NLT): “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.” I do that now. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. Amen
Bible Reflection
“I will also turn against those who commit spiritual prostitution by putting their trust in mediums or in those who consult the spirits of the dead. I will cut them off from the community.” Leviticus 20:6 NLT
“You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too. What? Do we dare to rouse the Lord’s jealousy? Do you think we are stronger than he is?” 1 Corinthians 10:21-22 NLT
“Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14 NLT
“For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything visible.” Ephesians 5: 8-14 NLT
“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6: 10-12 NLT
