Do you believe that you are wonderfully made?

It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is for people to talk about what they don’t like about themselves: I’m too big, I’m too small, my weight, my hair, my belly, my legs, my this, that and the other. They even say things like, “I’m dumb” or “I’m stupid.” Granted, we all have weaknesses and limitations and we should acknowledge them so we can work on them and/or seek help. But calling yourself negative names is totally unnecessary.

Anyway, so a few weeks ago while driving to work God dropped in my spirit to ask my co-workers, “Tell me three things you like about you?” Well, it was like pulling teeth! They started telling me what they didn’t like. I said, no, no, that’s not what I’m asking. I’m asking you to tell me three things you like about yourself? I got the deer in headlights look. Then I couldn’t help but saying, there must be something you like about you. It was the hardest thing ever! So I was like ok, let me help you out… you know you have a beautiful smile… right; you have a sweet personality, you do know this, right; and so it went on.

This is what people have said to me, “I don’t like talking about me.” Well… my experience is that people are quick to talk bad/negative about themselves and surprisingly comfortable when doing it but uneasy and hold back when it comes to talking good/positive about themselves. Go figure!

You Are Wonderfully Made!

People, this is not hard! If you believe that you are wonderfully made, then there should be at least three things you like about you and can say with confidence. Come on! Well, let me share with you what I like, better yet love about me. I love my smile, my two big front teeth with gap and all. LOL! That’s three things right there. And oh by the way, I also love that I’m filled with empathy, I have exceptional organizational skills and I’m trustworthy. Bam! Three more. Folks, it is really easy!

The starting point is knowing who you belong to. If you don’t know or not sure you know or want to know more, I encourage you to read Psalm 139:1-18. Then take time to know you, to know who you are. Then love you, all of you. Then thank God for you and what He has blessed you with. Stop putting yourself down and downplaying you, your gifts, talents, strengths, qualities, virtues, etc.. You are AWESOME! Don’t believe otherwise or allow anyone to make you think otherwise. Why? Because you are God’s marvelous creation. You are unique! There is no one else like you. Of course, there is always room for improvement but love you and don’t compare. Comparing does not work and is not healthy. Yes, we can admire each other but let’s leave it right there. Let’s celebrate each other and each other’s uniqueness!

Bible Reflection

“The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.” Deuteronomy 28:13 NIV

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14 NLT

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT

Challenge

I challenge you to think of at least three things you like about you… Share it and let’s celebrate each other!
