Show Some Love!

Many Ways to Show Love

We talk, write, sing, and think about love. That’s all good. But now more than ever, it’s time to show some love. What’s love got to do with it? Everything!

When I’m around people, whether at work, church, the hair salon, S.E.R.V.E. Inc., Walmart or anywhere else, I feel the love flowing from my heart and I can’t help but to show some love. There are so many ways we can show some love: a smile, a “hello-how-are-you-doing,” a compliment, a Bible verse, a word of encouragement, a listening ear, a prayer.

In 1999 when I turned my life over to God, my life changed and so did my heart. Jesus lives in me through His Holy Spirit and has been working His love in me and through me, touching other people’s hearts, minds and souls.

“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” 1 John 3:18 NLT

When love extends beyond our inner circle or comfort zone

When love extends beyond our inner circle or comfort zone—family, friends, people we like or who like us, people who look like us or think like us—then we are loving in the way Jesus taught us to love. “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:34-35 NLT

At times it’s not easy but it is doable. Yes, there are some people who are “not nice” and we don’t want to be bothered with them, but if we want to keep it real, there may be some people who feel the same way about us. The good news is we don’t have to rely on our feelings; we rely on Jesus and through Him, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

Now, when we love someone, it doesn’t mean that we have to like everything they say or do. I can love you and not like some of your ways and I may not agree with your thoughts, decisions, opinions or lifestyle, but I can still love you. If we disagree while love reigns in our hearts, we will do it in a respectful and dignified manner, without tearing each other down. The love in our hearts must be bigger than anything and everything else. However, there is one exception—any type of abuse (physical, mental or emotional) is totally unacceptable, and protective avoidance of that person is appropriate.

Show Some Love!

When love reigns in our hearts, we show love by our actions. We are thoughtful, mindful, sensitive and considerate of each other’s feelings or situations. We are kinder and nicer to each other in the way we talk, interact and treat one another. We agree to disagree in a polite and respectful manner. We acknowledge, embrace and celebrate our differences and we exercise self-control and tolerance. We empathize, sympathize and show compassion for each other’s past and present sufferings and challenges, not dismissing or belittling any experiences just because we haven’t been there or can’t relate. We take advantage of every opportunity and situation to show love. This is how we do it!

So when you are going about your business, at work, school, church, appointments, shopping, driving or anywhere else, show some love. Remember that what the world really needs now is love and it starts with us. Show some love today!
